The Hidden Power of Desire: From Hopelessness to Liberation

The Hidden Power of Desire: From Hopelessness to Liberation

At pivotal moments in life, we wrestle with questions of choice and consequence: Should I pursue security or embrace freedom? Do I follow my inner desire or shoulder responsibility? And most importantly—how will these decisions transform who I become?

In our Swar Vandana sessions, such reflections surfaced repeatedly. What became evident was that liberation does not always arrive in spectacular, life-altering events. More often, it is experienced in subtle, everyday choices that redefine how we relate to ourselves and others.

Liberation Through Letting Go

One participant shared how she ended a relationship that existed only in her imagination. Paradoxically, in releasing this inner construct, she found not pain but freedom. Her question—“Why was I cooking everything in my head?”—highlighted how suffering often arises not from reality but from the narratives we create.
This simple observation underscores a vital professional and personal truth: clarity emerges when we recognize the difference between facts and stories. By letting go of mental clutter, we access energy for authentic growth and purposeful action.

Stepping Into the Unknown

Another reflection drew from Dev Kanya’s journey in the Saanjh series. In one poignant dialogue, she declares: “If I succeed, I will not be the same. If I fail, I will not be the same again.

This became a powerful metaphor for our group discussions. Whether it was a young professional relocating abroad, an individual leaving behind a secure relationship, or someone choosing the simple act of watching a movie alone—the act of stepping into the unknown consistently revealed courage, transformation, and authenticity.

In leadership and careers, too, growth comes not from eliminating uncertainty, but from learning to walk with it. Unknowns invite innovation, resilience, and expanded identity.

Beyond Extremes: Hopelessness and Ambition

The conversations revealed two psychological traps we often fall into:
  • Hopelessness: “It will never happen, so why even try?”
  • Ambition: “It must happen, or I will not be happy.”

Both extremes erode authenticity. While hopelessness paralyzes, unchecked ambition traps us in perpetual dissatisfaction. Authentic desire occupies a balanced space in between—steady, resilient, and free from external compulsion.

For professionals, this insight is crucial. Sustainable success is fueled not by fear-driven ambition, nor by resignation, but by the clarity of aligned, intrinsic desire.

Liberation in Everyday Choices

Not all breakthroughs arrive as grand epiphanies. Sometimes, liberation resides in the smallest of decisions:

  • A child independently completing homework.
  • Choosing not to react in a difficult family exchange.
  • Executing on long-postponed personal goals.

Transferred to professional contexts, this principle is identical. Small acts—closing a long-delayed project, setting healthy boundaries, or embracing reflective silence—create disproportionate value and freedom.

Saanjh: A Mirror for the Journey Within

Saanjh Episode 1 - 'Mystery of Kailsh Parvat' is more than music; it is a narrative journey that mirrors the choices we make. Episode 1 presents a young woman who breaks expectations—including an engagement—to follow her inner voice.

Her outward journey—parallels an inner journey marked by doubt, movement, discovery, and eventual clarity.

Key insights from the episode align deeply with personal and professional growth:

  • Pain and transcendence can coexist.
  • Regret can evolve into resolve.
  • Fear, when reframed, transforms into curiosity.
  • Inner guidance often echoes as remembered wisdom, grounding us in unfamiliar territory.

“When we witness the energy of our journey, things begin to reveal themselves.”

Closing Reflection

As one session concluded, we carried forward a vital question: “What is the significance of this event in your life, at this age, in this time?”

For professionals and individuals alike, the significance may not emerge immediately. Yet, holding this question reshapes the lens through which we approach decisions, liberates us from mere obligation, and aligns us with the authentic desire that fuels lasting transformation.
